Clinical studies show great results: within just 12 weeks therapy 96-99% of genotype 1 patients were cured.
In case of genotype 1 Hep C and no prior Hep C treatment of 865 patients having or without cirrhosis (compensated), treatment results show 99% (210 out of 213) taking HARVONI (1 pill a day for 12 weeks). In case of GT1 Hep C, 648 patients (without prior Hep C treatment and with no cirrhosis) participated in a special study that resulted in 96% (208 out of 216) successfully treated people after taking only 1 pill of HARVONI once a day during 12 weeks.
The above described studies do not refer to decompensated (advanced) cirrhosis patients or those with liver transplant. Decompensated cirrhosis means that the patient’s liver is not longer functioning in a healthy and effective way because it’s heavily scarred.
The term ‘cured’ and related terms mean that the blood tests taken in 3 months after the treatment course has been completed do not show the presence of Hep C virus.
Harvoni is a highly effective drug that you can use in treatment of adults with lasting hepatitis C (Hep C) genotype (GT) 1,4,5 or 6, with or without compensated cirrhosis. The best way to cure the patients with GT 1 decompensated cirrhosis and/or GT 1 or 4 with/without compensated cirrhosis and who do have liver transplant is to use HARVONI in combination with Ribavirin.
HARVONI and the things
I should know about it.
Please pay attention to possible HARVONI heavy side effects:
First, before taking HARVONI, ask your physician to take blood tests to verify if you have Hepatit B, because taking HARVONI can reactivate Hepatit B virus in patients who had/have it before. Hepatit B can be activated during or even after HARVONI course treatment, which can lead to aggravation of liver status and possible lethal outcome. Being in the risk group, it’s strongly advisable to be monitored by your physician in the process of taking HARVONI and after the treatment had been completed.
